"Exterior Facelifts": "Welcome Home"
The
new owner of this San Rafael home wanted to make the front view more attractive.
In the words of Better Homes and Gardens (August 1999), CWD "remodeled the
home's facade to convey a warmer welcome" (146). The new portico draws attention
to the front door instead of the garage, and the new multipane windows admit
the same amount of light as the old panels while adding a more modern look.
Davis lowered the roof overhang to create a more graceful line, and added
the brick staircase with a gabled landing to pull attention to the porch and
entry. The new gray and white paint scheme adds a classic look to a formerly
drab home.
